Upload and Host Clipstream™ Video v3
After successfully encoding a .vcs file, upload and host it.

Encode a file

If you haven't already, learn how to encode a Clipstream™ Video clip (.vcs) file on this page before continuing with this step-by-step guide.

Requirements

The default encode of a Clipstream™ Video movie will output the following required files:
  • a Clipstream™ Video .vcs file - the actual movie file
  • a .js file - a javascript file that contains the code that operates the player
  • a panelimages.jpg - the graphic that becomes the buttonset interface
  • a clipstreamvideo.zip - this is the tiny program that plays the movie
  • a clipstreamvideo.cab, clipstreamvideo_signed.cab - variations on the .zip for different implementations of the player
  • a .jpg that is a screen capture of one of the frames of the video (you can specify which frame it captures)
  • a default web page with embedded Clipstream™ Video Java applet code

You will need these files for Clipstream™ Video to work from a website. In addition, you will need the following:
  • an FTP program such as WS_FTP, Dreamweaver, Fetch
  • Notepad or other code editor
  • access to webspace on a webserver
Uploading

Follow the steps below to upload your movie to your website correctly so that it can be hosted.

1. Copy the required Clipstream™ files (see the list above) to your website's local space.

2. Connect to your web server using your FTP program.

3. Create a directory where you would like your Clipstream™ Video to be hosted.

4. Using your FTP program, upload the clipstreamvideo.zip, .vcs file(s), panelimages.jpg and the web page to the directory you have created.

5. Make note of the location on your server.

View the page remotely

Now that all of the files are located on your webserver, view them using a browser.

1. Open up a Java-enabled browser.

2. Type in the location of the .html page that you have uploaded into the Address field of your browser.

Make sure the address includes the name of the web page that you uploaded.

3. The page should display in your browser like it did at the end of the Quick Start guide only this time it will be streaming from the Internet, not from your hard drive.

To play the video, click anywhere on the video frame or click the flashing play button.

Note: In Internet Explorer you may need to click twice to activate it. Please see Embedding Clipstream™ Video v3 as a .js include as a method to get around this.

The video will detect your connection speed.

And then it will play.

Licensing
The sample movie included with the installation will play with a flashing logo imposed over the image. You can test a movie of any length on your webserver. To remove the flashing logo, go to our Licensing Clipstream™ Video page to learn how to license your server for Clipstream™ Video.
